HUBUNGAN PENCEGAHAN PRIMER DEMENSIA DENGAN KEJADIAN DEMENSIA PADA LANSIA

Demensia merupakan penyakit neurodegeneratif yang menjadi penyebab kematian nomor 7 di dunia. Berdasarkan World Health Organization (WHO) lebih dari 55 juta orang di dunia mengalami demensia. Penyakit ini menyebabkan kerusakan progresif yang berkaitan dengan memori, pengenalan, orientasi spasial dan temporal, serta komunikasi. Patofisiologi demensia belum sepenuhnya dimengerti. Pencegahan demensia pada lansia dapat dilakukan melalui upaya pencegahan primer, yaitu dengan menghilangkan faktor risiko tertentu. Salah satu pendekatan upaya ini adalah dengan tetap aktif secara kognitif, fisik dan sosial di usia paruh baya serta usia lanjut. Literatur ini merupakan hasil dari pencarian di Google Scholar, PubMed, Science Direct, Hindawi, Medline, dan Cochrane. Berikutnya dilakukan seleksi untuk memilih literatur yang sesuai. Peninjauan isi literatur yang telah memenuhi kriteria dilakukan untuk memulai penulisan kemudian diskusi disusun secara sistematis. Ada bukti observasional yang menunjukkan bahwa perkembangan demensia dapat ditunda dengan intervensi seperti modifikasi gaya hidup yaitu mendorong pasien untuk aktif secara fisik dan kognitif, menjaga pola makan yang sehat, serta mengelola gangguan pendengaran dan faktor risiko kardiovaskular, khususnya hipertensi. Patogenesis demensia belum sepenuhnya dimengerti, namun pencegahan primer dapat dipertimbangkan untuk dilakukan karena sebagian besar faktor yang terlibat dalam timbul dan berkembangnya demensia dapat diatasi, sehingga tujuan pencegahan ini dapat menunda timbulnya sindrom demensia pada lansia.References
