ANALISIS PERSEPSI DAN PENGETAHUAN MASYARAKAT TERHADAP PENYAKIT KUSTA DI KELURAHAN MASARANG, KABUPATEN MINAHASA, SULAWESI UTARA

Kabupaten Minahasa masih menjadi salah satu kabupaten di Indonesia dengan masalah kusta yang belum mencapai target eliminasi nasional. Rendahnya angka kesembuhan dan jumlah penderita yang terus bertambah menjadi masalah kesehatan klasik yang belum terselesaikan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui persepsi dan pengetahuan masyarakat terhadap penyakit kusta di Kelurahan Masarang, Kabupaten Minahasa dengan menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif. 13 informan yang terdiri atas petugas kesehatan, tokoh masyarakat, tetangga dan penderita kusta dipilih untuk mendapatkan gambaran tentang persepsi dan pengetahuan. Menggunakan metode wawancara mendalam dan content analysis, kami menemukan disparitas pengetahuan pada kelompok informan. Petugas kesehatan selaku ujung tombak penganggulangan kusta memiliki pengetahuan yang sangat baik tentang kusta, namun pada kelompok tokoh masyarakat hingga penderita, pengetahuan cenderung menurun kearah kurang baik. Hal ini diakibatkan oleh perbedaan tingkat pendidikan dan keterpaparan akan informasi kusta. Kami juga menemukan hal menarik pada persepsi informan, meskipun pengetahuan mereka kurang namun kami menemukan secara umum persepsi mereka baik. Hal ini tergambar dalam interaksi sosial mereka, dimana mereka memperlakukan penderita kusta dengan baik. Rasa takut akan kusta hanya terjadi di fase awal saja, seiring berjalan waktu keberterimaan dalam lingkungan sosial menjadi baik. Untuk meningkatkan kualitas penelitian di masa depan, kami menyarankan perlunya pelibatan mediator dan penggunaan metode wawancara mendalam yang lebih baik untuk mengatasi kesulitan mendapatkan informasi pada penderita kusta.References
