Diabetes melitus (DM) merupakan kondisi kronis yang masih mempengaruhi sejumlah besar populasi global saat ini. Adanya efek samping seperti mual, pusing, dan hipoglikemia akibat terapi DM dengan obat sintetik menyebabkan diperlukannya alternatif pengobatan dari bahan alam. Rumput laut merupakan bahan alam yang melimpah di Indonesia dan mengandung senyawa bioaktif anti-DM seperti polisakarida, asam lemak esensial, dan metabolit sekunder lainnya.
